The Chi Kong Tong, or the Chinese Benevolent Society, Was Founded in 1891
In 18 84, 696 chinese arrived on the prince alexander. Most of them were destined for duccanfield sugar plantation in jamaica. With no one standing up to be their champion or fight for their rights, these haka chinese knew they had to organize to defend themselves. This is no different from what we saw happen in san francisco, new york, or elsewhere.
