Is Sham a Cause or a Consecration of Mental Illness?

Shame can either be the cause of different forms of mental distress or the consequence. So when we think badly of ourselves because we're struggling, say, with anxiety disorder or depression, that's an element of shame. If we are beating up on ourselves for something that happened to us in ildhood, and inevitably, for example, if we suffer a lot of criticism or neglect or abuse in childhood, we will blame it on ourselves. We carry shame through our lives. And inow shame takes the form of self criticism, i takes theform of self isolation, takes the formof self absorption. In any of those ways of being a serious effect on our mental health.
