The Effects of Training on Muscle Mass

Many people take off from training, say a month. That actually won't do nearly as much negative to your fitness or your physique as you might expect. A study by Hwang and colleagues found that with two weeks of literally no training, they did not lose their muscle mass. And then in addition, Ronestad looked at professional soccer players and found when they had them train every other week, just one strength session.
