The History of the Feast Days of Saint Joseph

The Feast of Saint Joseph the worker is celebrated on May 1st. In 1870, the Catholic Church lost the Papal States and had to retreat into a land previously owned by other nations. The earliest feast day was March 19th - usually described as the death day of Saint Joseph. But then after the Council of Trent, the Carmelites also extend devotion to Saint Joseph. And this is how we get to Saint Joseph's Day in our question today.
