The Department of Defense in this, or the Navy office that released this answer to Black Vault, I think they made things worse. The run around and ultimate response that they made is exactly what the believers want to hear. It helps cement their distrust of the institutions. They don't have the skill set necessary to deal with the situation. As you say, they get trolled because if they release it, they'll make hay out of it.
