The Physics of Quantum Weirdness
At room temperature, even when an object appears stationary to the naked eye, the atoms that make up the object are actually vibrating. In crystals cooled to this super low temperature, the atoms can only vibrate at discrete set intensities. The experiment touches on a central mystery in quantum mechanics, known as the measurement problem. It pushes physicists' understanding of the interface between the quantum and classical world.
