The Sacrament of Confession

The church does not consider the seal to be dependent on there being a valid absolution at the end of a confession. A priest could do anything to derail that and then rat on you to whoever he wanted. The church wants people to be confident in going to confession period. And even if that means letting some guilty people go, it's better this way than to scare people off from being reconciled with God.
