A sacrament, says St. Augustine, is a sign of a sacred thing that makes men holy. Father Gregory: In every sacramental sign, we refer to form and matter. And in the case of the sacrament of confession, you as a penitent, you bring your sins, which you intend to confess,. You bring your contrition, right? So, it's these things taken together constitute the sacrament, validly celebrated.
