The UNIVAC Prediction
UNIVAC or Universal Automatic Computer correctly predicted Adlay Stevenson's victory over Dwight Eisenhower in 1952. But veteran use casters Walter Cronkite and Charles Collingwood couldn't bring themselves to trust the computer's prediction. So instead, they waited a bit until it was pretty obvious that Eisenhower would win the presidency. By that point, UNIVAC was predicting 100 to 1 odds that Eisenhower would breeze into victory.
