GPT4's Emergent Abilities

There has been some chatter about this possibility. GPT4 does have what are called emergent abilities. It can do things it was not trained to do, such as translate text into different languages or perform arithmetic. We're not really sure why these abilities appear because again, we can't peek under the hood.
