Lula was accused of being allowed to use an apartment by the sea in return for favours. He spent 580 days in prison before being released in November 2019. His convictions later thrown out after courts ruled there had been insufficient evidence. The judge who oversaw the case subsequently became part of Bolsonaro's government as justice minister, Richard Lapper again.
