Researchers looked at women who sought an abortion, some of whom were granted the right to have an abortion. Others were denied based on being slightly too far into their pregnancy. The researchers followed them in the years after that decision was made. And across the board, they found that particularly when it comes to socio economic status, the impact of being denied an abortion is very significant.

Wall Street stocks suffered steep declines on Thursday with the Nasdaq’s biggest fall since 2020 and the Bank of England has warned that the UK economy will slide into recession this year. Plus, the FT’s Latin America editor, Michael Stott, explains why the British Virgin Islands is rejecting a push for direct rule from London.
