Is Leveled Books a Good Way to Determine a Child's Reading Ability?
Matt Burns: leveled books are not a good way on their own to determine a child's reading ability. He says the Fountas and Penel benchmark assessment system in particular is being used to try to identify children who need extra help. The professor at the University of Missouri says there's not enough of a difference between a level E book and a level G book for that to be reliable.
