I think the role of the general managers lends itself to thinking about every single thing you can do to squeeze out one more win for your team. It's a really competitive environment in major league baseball. If you want to win three more games, you have to take those wins away somehow from the other 29 teams. As a general manager, I didn't have the time or the energy to take away from trying to eke out those few more wins for the Red Sox or the Cubs and to think about the big picture. We just worried into position as an industry to put those changes into play.
