The red poppy is the most prominent example of what i would call a kind of soviet orientalism, or a sort of re exoticizing of china. The plot self is a kind of reworkingo something like madame butterfly, or allthe people that know russian literature, or this kind of prisoner of the caucusus. It's really sentral to making this claim that ballet can survive into the soviet period and can still have relevance for a for the art of a revolutionary society.
