The Thoracic Cavity and Neumithorax
A Neumithorax occurs when he gains access to and accumulates within the plural cavity. This is a huge structure which houses some pretty important organs. It's not actually this thoracic cavity - it's divided up into three sections. The right and the left plural cavities are particularly interested in today. They're formed by a double-led membrane. Now interestingly because we've lost that negative pressure between the pleural membranes, the surface tension is broken and the communication between the lungs and the chest wall is interrupted. So not only do we start getting lung collapse but we also get impairment of the mechanics of ventilator ventilation.
