As the city grew, there continued to be efforts to create better inferastructure and new civic institutions. A distinct african american neighborhood formed north of downtown tulsa in an area called greenwood. And a lot of businesses along greenwood avenue that sort of de this neighborhood were black owned. So it sometimes was called black wall street. Although that can be misunderstood. It's not as if this was a really rich upper class like you'd see on a main street in a major city like chicago or san francisco.
