The idea of the metaphysics of laws was a subject that was laid mostly undiscussed. It wasn't until the 1970s that people started really thinking about what laws might be. David Armstrong had this interesting view, which is a little bit like Tim Maudland's view. Some of them are connected by a relation that he called contingent necessitation.
