Do You Need a BVM?
The dominant gas that we breathe in being nitrogen 78%. That nitrogen again, just kind of lays in the RV life. So we want to drive out that nitrogen. We want to raise that PO2 as high as possible. Do we want to use a BVM? Again, this is just my view. I think that a BVM can be a bad thing. If you do have a protocol where you have to utilize a BVM over a non-rebreather, give very slow breaths. Remember mortality goes up 50% if your patient aspirates.
