In the ancient Greek East and really in most cultures before the modern age, there's also this other thing. The noose is the word that the Greeks use for and it really translates as spiritual eye or spiritual reason. What they're trying to say is his eyes are closed, his spiritual eye is closed, or it has a cataract, and they're not seeing clearly. So if there is a spiritual eye, for the last 300 years, we've closed it or we've not been asked to use it. And I think this explains a lot of what's going on is that the way what we used to call wisdom is not evident to people.
