Introduction
The term fundamentalism has a generic meaning. It refers to movements in any and all religions, seeking to return to forms of belief and practice. Inevitably, such movements reject the separation of religion from the state; they seek to force their views upon others. Now, this is a worldwide trend which has come as a surprise to many observers. For generations, the world had seen a decline in the power of religion. But today, this is no longer the case. Religions are gaining in power and influence,. Many previously nominal members are turning again into fervent adherents.
