Jefferson's Optimism About the American Republic
Thomas Jefferson had a rosy view of human nature and rejected the idea of original sin. He thought it was possible in this new world to have an agrarian republic that where everyone could have at least 50 acres and be a self-sufficient farmer. His interest in Deism, his interest in theology, Jefferson even wrote his own bible. And he said when we get piled up in cities... It's all over.
