Birkett-Lymphoma is homogenous in ways that seemingly confound efforts at more detailed classification. Its genetic and nearly universal hallmark is a translocation that places the mik gene under control of a strong enhancer. The ability to classify patients could help uncover new possibilities to replace cytotoxic agents with more targeted therapy.
