Jesus took all the sins of the world upon himself so that we can have a second chance to spend eternity in heaven with god. The only thing that we have to do to gain this forgiveness is to believe in god. Once you are saved, once you accept god's free gift and pray for salvation, you become what is known as a christian. And a christians don't immediately die because they remain here on earth while others go to heaven. We call it 'good friday' because i we remember the sacrifice jesus made for us.
