Virgil's 'Odes'
In the first poem, he makes an outrageous request of micenus, who's still his dedicatee. He says, if you make me number 11 in the canon nine greek lyric poets, i will bump the stars with my head. This is what he was building up to all along. And this is where horace lifts his eyes off the ground and he becom a star. The odes came out in 23 b c, not long before virgil published the aeneid. In retrospect, it that looks, almost in retrospect, as though there was a plan for the future.
