Hitchcock Tropes in the Bennett Play
It's normally queers, as he puts it, who get blackmailed. In in a way, you've almost made this a kind of act of revenge. The policeman and the newspaper seller's daughter would be exactly the sort of people who would be tutting over cases like his in the sunday papers. He's actually the man on the innocent man, wrongly accused, man on the run. So that you sall get two for one hitchcock tropes in that character. And this is maybe a kind of emerging character type her - i'm struggling to think of a figure very much like this in any earlier victorian villains.
