The Importance of Channeling Magic
Being an isodae and a magic wielder doesn't mean that you're invincible by any means. With having your hands removed, either you need your hands to be able to channel because that's part of it. And when you're in extreme pain, like being burned to the stakes with your hands chopped off, maybe you can't focus well enough to actually use the magic. I'm thinking in terms of like Dungeons and Dragons, where there's a component where casting a spell might involve doing actions. It might involve saying words or using material components. Or it's also maybe channeling requires a certain level of focus.
