Is There a Window of Opportunity for Negotiation?
US general says Russia's retreat from her son and a potential stalemate in fighting over the winter could provide both countries with an opportunity to negotiate peace. Francis: I don't think this aligns with the White House's view, not at least officially, but I think it is indicative of a trend in thinking that is, as I say, not unpopular. He also said that well over 100,000 Russian soldiers have been killed or wounded in the war or in Ukraine; same thing probably on the Ukrainian side. And he then went on to estimate that around 40,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed/wounded.
