Is There a Meta Data Science Layer to Machine Learning?

Many people don't treat data science or machine learning like data science. If you are deploying something into production and you're looking at the data, there's a word for this. At each layer, look at it, have dashboards that can show the differences. And then also, I think there's the business side, which would be kind of high level: Are you actually looking at what's happening?
