Perfumes and the American Women's Market During the First World War
Perfumes may have been made in france, but it was american women in particular who fueled the demand. In 19 15, there was a morality play called experience where each actress would be sprayed with perfume before she went on stage to try and get her to perform more vigour. I think this is again a brilliant marketing story of fragrance trying to show the world, look, we can do the arts. We're relevant.
