Peary broke his leg twice, explored the northern reaches of greenland and failed to reach many destinations he over wintered there. He would eventually be most recognized for leading an expedition that claimed to be the first to reach the geographic north pole. Peary's other claim to fame is being the first western explorer to actually reach the meteorite which was called by non native greenlanders the cape york meteorite.
