The Evolution of Writing in Mesopotamia
Around 3000 BC, the dates are a little hazy, but around that time, the great buildings of the early period, the late fourth millennium, are levelled. And it looks as if the plan was to construct an even more massive platform on which new buildings would be constructed. So with these major transformation of the architecture at Uruk we also see the spread of the script to other cities across Mesopotamia.
