Saurus was a goth general who served the usurper Jovianus. He had fallen out with Honorius for not properly punishing his retainers, including Stilico and Atalth. The two families were blood enemies so Saurus' offer of service alienated them both. His last stand against 10,000 Goths may have been overkill, but hey, blood enemies deserve the red carpet treatment.
