Rebecca Hosking was a cinematographer for the BBC's Natural History Unit. She saw huge sways of environmental degradation and thought, you know, people need to know if they knew they would change the world. So she persuaded her series editor to let her make a film about all of the garbage in the ocean. The next day she woke up to find the world's media at her doorstep. And ever since that tiny, tiny, tiny experiment, country after country has changed their policy on the use of plastics.
