Reforming Religion

In eighteenth century europe, liberals successfully advocated for reformed versions of protestant christianity, catholic christianity and judaism. Scriptural texts were re interpreted as affirming a right to religious freedom and a prohibition on slavery among other things. Many of the liberals involved in this religious reform project were sincere religious believers.
