How Deep Learning and Neural Networks Have Impacted Forecasting

The first real attempt to apply neural networks in a forecasting text. And they did very badly. They were over fitting to time series that were not particularly long. In the last two to three years, we've seen deep learning start to really have an impact in forecasting. But only when there's a very large collection of time series and the neural net is applied to the entire collection - not one series at a time.
