The idea that we constantly weigh costs and benefits is pretty useful to consider, especially if you're a salesperson. When I used to sell treadmills over the phone, I was looking for people who really wanted a treadmill in order to get some exercise in and not have to leave their house. We need that to outweigh the cost, meaning first of all, the price of the treadmill. And then there's the cost of like the pain of having to be on the treadmill.
