The Irony of the French Approach to Secularism

The French approach to secularism was to enforce equality so that we're all going to be equal. If you are French, if you get the label, like secularism just means that like you can do whatever you want in private, but in public, we are all going to Be The Same. Turkey's political instability is actually a revolt against secularism defined in that way. We need to have ways to express ourselves in these different ways and why can't that be part of the national conversation?
