There's this idea, i think, for a lot of young researchers that you can and should just be keeping up with interesting new articles appearing in the journals that you follow. This is very hard to do in most fields. Any sort of mainstream academic field has a ton of papers coming out. And too, in most fields, the literature's very difficult. It's a time consuming, cognitively demanding process to really try to understand a papernd. So what i see a lot of in academia is hacks to to force more paper reading,. The best hacks are narrowing your gaze to papers that could directly lead to your own research.
