Introduction
Homer's Iliad depicts the closing stages of the Trojan War. Other tales about the war had existed in ancient times, but only survived today in fragmentary forms or with other ancient authors alluding to it. Many scenes can also be found on Greek pottery, attesting to the widespread knowledge of the war in ancient times.
