The Virtues as Tools

When we think about the virtues, we want to think about them not as a sort of action in themselves but a disposition to act in a particular way. So they're a power that renders us capable or allow us to do a particular action. In our case, it takes us many, many, many steps, movements. It takes us a great deal of time to get to the end. And in pursuing that goal, it's very arduous, right? At the very least, we find it boring.
