The way we think about our lives and our future does make a difference. I do think that human beings with normal cognitive abilities have the ability to think about their lives and their future in a way that as far as we can tell, no non-human animal has. But other animals are living more in the present, not entirely in the present. And so they don't sort of fear death in the abstract in the way that we do as cutting off our plans and making things that we do today pointless. They may fear death when they're close to death or when they can smell another animal being killed. So I think that these reasons we can say that it's worse to kill
