The Importance of Onions in the UK

Smithfield Market sells more imported onions than anybody else in the country. A wagon has 23 tonnes of Onions every day, and we have about five a day. The UK doesn't invest enough back into infrastructure to compete with foreign countries. In summertime, I can buy a tomato from Holland for £4 - 60 miles away it'll cost me £5.50.
