The framers of our constitution were contending with an established church, the anglican church. The baptistigt baptists were persecuted and beaten. It took ten years to get it passed under then under the leadership of james madison in legislature. Your religious identity should be neither an advantage or a disadvantage in your status as a citizen. That's the idea about religious freedom means as jefferson and madison intended it.
