The Choice Point: Will the Climate Crisis Force Us Into an Authoritarian Social Contract?
I think that there doesn't seem to be a capacity at the moment to work this technology in the more humanistic, collaborative way that we might want. I mean, one of the interesting things about Facebook is they tried to do something, people revolted. And then they did it anyway without telling people over and over again in the history of the company. Now the question is, when things get really bad and it's discovered that we really can't go to the moon and fix it by going to a space colony, will we all be forced into a new social contract? But will we be forced by the climate crisis into not an authoritarian social contract, but into a more collaborative one?
