The Black Death Was a Rat Fall, Right?

This was the theory for literally hundreds of years. This is how we thought the Black Death or the major big bubonic plague was spread. A 2017 paper came out asking questions about this theory and possibly proposing an alternative theory. And there was actually no medieval records suggesting that rats were dying on mass, which really calls into question if that was what was going on.
