Is the Day Night Cycle a Part of the Game?

The day night cycle is a huge part of the game. It was introduced really early on in the first igital prototype. Every but five or six turns it shifts from day to night, and that changes whether enemies attack you first,. which often is like a one had kill in this game. "It's crazy how long we spent with it just being a random amount of time on day and night end"
