The Neurons of Pontoos
In mice with Alzheimer's, neurons were bulging with toxic accumulations of proteins and molecules. The team decided to name these neurons Pontoos from the ancient Greek word for flower, entos, with an added P for poison. Further work revealed that they were products of autophagy gone wrong. Their discovery implied that anti-amyloid therapies would be futile.
