RSV has been around for thousands of years, contributing to the rise in respiratory infections that humans have seen in colder months or in rainy months. There's not really much info that I could find about where specifically RSV came from and when it was estimated to have first infected humans. In a 2012 paper, authors tested bat and rodent species for paramixoviruses,. They found a bunch of novel viruses in bats that seemed to be relatives of RSV in humans.
