Sasako Motosama witnessed a mass execution by the river. This killing went on from sun up until sundown ending in the deaths of 2000 people. There was a belief within the Japanese Imperial Army that raping a virgin would grant them greater power and battle. Once they were eliminated, they turned their attention towards the women of Nanking which started the largest mass rape in human history.
